Dear friends and fans, allow me to introduce to you my neighbour, Quinnton the Jack Russell.

He's very friendly and not as barky with strangers, unlike us, we go all yappy and yakky and absolutely drive the hoomans nuts. Quinnton's quite the charm except for...

OCM - Obsessvive Compulsive Marker. That's Quinnton. Once the gates are open, he embarks on his personal vendetta like a man on a mission. When unmarked/unwatched, he would leave no corner unpeed. If your gates are not closed, prepare your mops or kitchen papers, OCM will dash in and leave his mark. He is so fast that you cannot stop him. I remember once poor Lil Suarez was by the gate and actually got peed on the head! That was hilarious, yet embarassing...

I'm no physcologist and I don't quite understand why but I'm sure he has his own reasons for his behaviour. Quinnton, we still love you, though you must understand that the OCM nickname will be hard to shake off!

New Toys In The House

The hoomans have new toys in the house. We're not worried of being replaced. We have utter most confidence in ourselves as number one playmates in the house. There is no way they can resist our "Puss in boots" stare. Though it's becoming increasingly concerning that they're spending more time with their new bicycles.

Can you spot Suarez in the background? That's Murphy and Tiki. Yeah, the silly hoomans gave their new rides names. Can you believe that?

On a separate note, we really miss the beach. Hoomans, are you reading this!

Hidden Camera

We caught the hooman news on TV a couple of nights ago and were startled by this particular piece of news...

For my friends who don't understand Mandarin, the clip was about the abuse of an old lady, patient at a nursing home here in Singapore. Left helplessly naked on her chair under the blowing fan, hurled violently onto her bed by the nursing home staff, slapped on the lips are just some of the atrocities. I couldn't bear to watch it more than once as it absolutely broke my heart.

Some time ago, the hoomans thought of installing a hidden camera in our home to survey the ongoing activities when they weren't around. To check if either one of us was bullying the other. They really shouldn't be wasting their money because there is no way we would do such things to each other. =)

The hoomans have been following the new season of So You Think You Can Dance. After what daddy said was a disappointing American Idol season, we were all relieved with the return of SYTYCD.

I actually enjoy the show. Some of you may have heard me sing, not many I bet have seen me dance! Oh yes, I do have some tricks in those tiny short legs.

There was this Irish dance audition that really caught my attention. Look at how graceful, light and delightful the Irish dance was. Simply beautiful!

King of Fruits

Durians aka King of Fruits! The hoomans have been bringing them home recently and I, being Queen (Reina) had to take on this so called King of Fruits.

The durian is known for it's unique smell. When I say unique, I mean it. Some have related the smell to that of rubbish bins. Some steer away from it like the plague. It is so unique that durians are actually banned on public transport here in Singapore. No kidding! The durian, by smell is not for the faint hearted.

It's physical appearance is also one to behold. Rock solid hard and covered with spikes, it must have taken a very hungry/desperate hooman to first discover the fruit. Seriously, would you even think of plying open something like that?

This is how the inside looks like. Do not judge a book by it's cover. Looks slimy like hell, but in your mouth, it tastes like heaven. IMO, Durians are the next best things to Mutton and Cheese.

Dangle a couple of durians in front of us and we'll look like this...

If you haven't tried it, you should! Though it's only available in South East Asia.

Women and Idols

In case you're wondering who that guy is, he's none other than the Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan. *Wooooooof*

If you remember the hooman Mel Gibson movie, "What Women Want", the Dog Whisperer is like "What Doggies Want". Cesar Millan knows us inside out. It's unbelievable. It's like real life Doo-Little. Why we whine, why we bark, why we lift our legs, why we lift our tails up high, my idol knows it all.

Overheard at the dining table today...

Dad: I think we should bring them out for walks more often. I saw this episode on Dog Whisperer. They showed how dogs store energy when they don't go for enough walks. That's why after a few days of not walking, they have bursts of energy that they can't wait to unleash when they go for their walks.

Mum: Agree...Let's do it!

XDog: Some Class

Have you heard of the new flick in town? X Men: First Class. The hoomans caught the film a couple of days ago and returned with rave reviews of the movie. Engaging from the very first minute, charming performances from the cast, just simply brilliant!

Well, what they forgot to mention was that we do have our very own XDog amongst our midst. Not necessary first class, but some class. Allow me to introduce to you, a very special talented dog...

Suarez, nicknamed "Bu-Oh" (Hainanese language) also known as Black Gold.

Gifted with extreme determination and a fearless heart. He doesn't take no for an answer and is the epitomy of staying focus on the task on hand. Video evidence provided to substantiate all claims.

Btw, forgive us for our hideous dressing. The hoomans made us wear them. I'm the one in the inappropriate hot pink dress. Suarez is in a more decent red top. Notice how I'm the one making all the noise/sound/grunts/whines, but to no avail. Suarez is never distracted. Suarez is as cool as a rock, doesn't budge, doesn't move (except the tail wagging, that's how slick he is. enjoying every moment of the challenge). No surprises who won.

Planking

I first got wind about this new fad in town from the hoomans. Now seriously, first they copy our "downward facing dog" in Yoga.

Singapore Dachies Gathering

Yesterday, we were at the Singapore Dachies gathering at K9 Kulture Cafe, Turf City. It's always cool to be a part of some club/society, what more a Dachies community. And it's always a good idea to head out on a weekend for a breather, to meet new friends and hang out with fellow doxies. Dogs have social lifes too!

We met fellow doxies from all walks of life, same shape but different colors, different sizes. Black tan, red, brown, dapple, ash, long haired, short coat, fizzy, curly, you name it, we got it.

One by one they came strutting in...

others were quick to work their magic on the cams..

Others not so shy...

Prior to the gathering, the hoomans had been busy with the General Elections. With all the walking and new friends, it did feel like it was some sort of campaigning for some form of dog elections as we walked the ground shaked paws/sniffed behinds and tried to get to know each other better. There was this one dog that caught our attention. Billie Jean, one of the pioneers for dog blogging in Singapore. When he saw me, he said, " Hey, I recognize you!" I was flattered and inspired. He asked me why I stopped blogging for such a long time. I was dumbfounded, it was then that I was reminded that there were actually followers of my blog.

Shortly after, another dachie approached me and asked about my blog. Again, I was flattered and motivated to try to keep up the blogging habit. Hence, this new entry. =)

We had a field day. It was good to be out and about. Suarez found time for an emo shot.

Torres has left us. Fernando, that is.

Fernando Torres left Liverpool Football Club on transfer day dateline after 3 years at the club where he attained idol status for his prolific goal scoring strike rate.

While, we (hoomans, reina and ahem, torres) were all shell shocked, it didn't take long before shock turned into disappointment. First, we read about his parting shot at Liverpool, that Chelsea, the enemy he switched sides for, were the bigger club. Then, he was quoted as saying he hoped to score against Liverpool. We can understand the need to impress your new owners, but this new level of bootlicking, even by our high frequency licking standards, seriously takes the cake. And when you thought it could not get any worse, he later declared that he never loved Liverpool. Judas, Fraudnando and Traitorres are just some of the nicknames labeled on the man, once worshiped by the Anfield faithful. We can understand why.

He was a great classy player, but the manner which he left was anything but classy.

Torres' departure isn't the breaking news that I'm sharing though. It's something else. Something bigger. Are you ready?

Suarez is the new Torres! Yes, you read it right. We're changing Torres' name to Suarez. Reason being we can no longer call my precious little brother by the name of a traitor. No worries, he is totally fine with the name change. He responds immediatedly to his new name Suarez! Phonetically amiss but blessing in disguise if you ask me!

A search on google for the meaning of Suarez yielded results of Suave, Sleek, Smooth and Quiet, which is like totally how Suarez is like! Somehow, the name Torres which was supposed to symbolise tower of strength, never really identified with Suarez. Now we know why!

So there you have it. It's official. It's now Miss Reina and Suave Suarez.

Lay and Wait

What do you do when your pawrents head out of the house without you? For me, I will start off with a few yells and then proceed on to a few howls, just to give them a piece of my mind as they leave home. I will plan the reaction to make sure that they can hear me as they drive off to wherever they need to go without us.

I bet some of you do the same. *wink*

Sometimes, just one half of the pawrents leave. That's more like it, if you ask me. So on those occassions, I would spare them the yakking.

Instead, I will find a comfortable spot, lay down and wait.

I'm sure some of you do that too. =)

I call it the Tub of Shame.

As you will have already known, we all love going to the beach. The sun, the sand and the sea are the next best things to breakfast, dinner and treats.

The only problem is that Lil' Torres has a bit of a problem controlling his "fountain". Every time we return from the beach, he releases himself in the car! With all the time in the world to release, he opts not to, he has to pee in the car.

There was one incident when he managed to pee on every single passenger in the car. Yes, you heard that right. Even the driver was not spared. It was incredible.

So we introduced the tub of shame.

The good news is that so far, it has been working!

Thats the nickname the hoomans gave me ever since I was little.

Ever since they discovered how I growl at anything unusual in sight. Ever since they witnessed the aftermath of how I devoured a cockroach. Ever since I fished out a beetle with my teeth, from below the TV console, when everyone thought I was just paranoid.

I'd gladly accept that title. If you think of it, my natural instincts/talent are actually saving the hoomans some $.

First, they save on door bells. Because there is simply no need for one. Before any stranger comes near our door, the sensory neurons in my tiny but powerful (*winks*) brain triggers my K9 vocals to sound off.

Next, they save on insecticide or cockroach traps or pest busters... Because I prey on sight.

The hoomans recently went for a holiday and came across something they thought was very appropriate for me.

They only got the picture though. They didn't buy the actual thing. Silly hoomans.

Haze Hits Singapore

The haze is back. Not since the late 90s has it breached unhealthy PSI levels of beyond 100. Yesterday, it did.

I can't believe that all this is happening because of some silly farmers who are burning their own crops to prepare for the new farming season. It's just so unbelievably selfish.

Which led to this conversation I had with Torres when we were chilling on the sofa.

ME: The haze is really bad. I heard from the hoomans that it breached PSI 100 into the unhealthy range.

TORRES: We're so LOW. It doesn't affect us.

ME: Bro, we're low but we still need to breathe.

TORRES: *Chokes* Oh, ok.

ME: *Eyes roll*

Midweek with Reina: Pulau Ubin

The hoomans LEFT us at home on Sunday to go cycling at Pulau Ubin. We made sure we gave them a piece of our mind/mouthful of whines as they left home.

For our dear friends abroad, Ubin is an island near Singapore. It's about a 10 minute boat ride away from the Changi Ferry Point. According to the hoomans, it has been ages sinces they last went. I've never been to Ubin myself. Dogs aren't allowed.

That's the welcome signage you'll see when you arrive at Ubin. It used to be a thriving kampong, but with civilisation, the population has dwindled significantly and the main source of income for the remaining islanders here is tourism.

Here below is a picture taken (off the internet) from the highest point of Ubin, overlooking the quarry and lake. It's quite a rare view for a concrete jungle like Singapore.

The main attraction at Ubin is the cycling. Bicycles can be rented from 2SGD for the whole day. Thats what the hoomans did. Cycling a bicycle is no joke. I could never do it. It's physically impossible for us.

Mum lost her balance and fell off her bicycle, injuring her chest and had bruises to her knee. It could be due to a lack of fiitness. The hoomans should really bring us out for walks more often. We ALL need exercise. Thankfully, the xrays indicated that it was not a serious injury and Mum got 3 days MC, which means more time at home with us! Now, I know what's bittersweet.

More good news was to follow. The hoomans found out that dogs are now allowed in Ubin. Though, they will have to charter an entire bum boat to bring us over. Mum's all for it but Dad's a tough nut to crack. For one, he feels that we can't cycle and two, there's nothing there for us to do.

Hello everyone,

In a blink of an eye, Oct is here and we're nearing the end of 2010. How time flies. Looking back, one of my resolutions for the year was to blog more regularly. It hasn't been as regular as I hoped, so it got me thinking and you know what? Maybe it's time for some restrategizing. From now on, I, Miss Reina will split the load of blogging and upkeeping this website with ....*drum rolls* .... Lil' Torres. Yes! you read it right.

We'll each blog once a week. starting from this weekend. So that's 2 entries a week. 2 dogs are better than 1. Our loyal fans and friends certainly deserve more than this irregular blogging habit that has been plagueing us for a while.

On another note, we got updates from Tamy.

Tamy's Torres little sister. She's got a new friend in the house and his name is Whitey. Whitey's a jack russell and the good news is that both Tamy and Whitey are getting along just alright!

Looking forward to meeting Whitey some day!

Fumigate and Formula One

It was the F1 weekend. No pets allowed on the circuit so we caught it on TV. Again, torn apart between our Spanish namesakes and German heritage (see previous blog post on World Cup), we were glad that it was a 1-2 finish for Alonso and Vettel! Just 4 games left and with so little separating the top drivers in the championship race, both Torres and I have got our paws in our mouth.

We're also pleased for Singapore. It was another night to remember, well executed and with all the global media attention eyeballed on this tiny island, we thought She did very well! Congrats Singapore!

That's us, for the uninitiated. This week, we'll be heading down to fat camp because of the planned fumigation works going on at home. You see, every couple of months, the town council where we come from would plan for the rubbish chutes in our apartments to be fumigated. How it goes is that they will unleash some kind of lethal smoke that would rid off all those unwanted pests, mostly cockroaches. Just imagine a giant deadly fart.

All windows have to be sealed or those cockroaches would wriggle their way into our apartment. They're known for their legendary survival instincts. It happened once and it left everyone in the household severely traumatized. Everyone is determined not to let it happen again.

A Strange Encounter

Hello my dear friends and fans! Are you there? Long time no blog. It's been a while but we haven't forgotten our blog. We're back and today, we'll like to share with you a very strange encounter during our walk with the hoomans just a couple of hours ago.

It was all nice shine goody two shoes until we approached the playground. There was this bunch of kids playing. Despite our microscopic miniature size and dark complexions, it didn't take very long for the kids to see us in the dark. Any doubts of how it felt like to walk through the hall when your name was called at an MTV awards program was quickly squashed. Okay, not quite. Oh My Dog, the kids went ballistic as we approached.

One of them got onto to the chair and practically looked like this.

Needless to say, mum went bonkers. She was so infuriated that anyone could have such a reaction. Do we look like monsters to you? =X

Football and Folly Reina

The new BPL (Barclays Premier League) season is back and the household is extremely excited. Despite having the World Cup just 2 months ago, we have been soccer starved and it was the perfect weekend for the league to start again.

Our namesakes were in contention to feature. Reina and Torres =)

It was not the most ideal start though. The new boy Joe Cole got a little too excited to kick start his career with the Reds and saw red with an over enthusiastic turned reckless challenge that left his poor team handicapped for more than half the game's playing time.

As usual, Reina was in top form, blocking and making some remarkable saves that would make any hooman or dog proud. Until that moment of folly, when he fumbled the ball into his own net. I can totally imagine myself in his boots. Too many a time has momentum dragged me further into situations or positions where I never intended to be.

Torres is still coming back from an injury. We're just hoping that he gets back to his best as like Reina, he is one of our key players. =)

We're just glad that the football season is back. Long weekend nights in the foreseeable future!

YOG Singapore

That's Merly and Lyo. Lion and Merlion, in case you're wondering. Dad thinks Merly is Kumar - inspired. (Kumar's a very famous local comedian here in Singapore)

The Youth Olympic Games are happening for the very FIRST time in history of both mankind and dogkind. And Singapore, this little red dot on the map has the honor of hosting this inaugural sporting event. It's still beyond anyone's wildest imagination. Both Torres and I, though ineligible to participate (we would totally nail the swimming event btw) are very proud for Singapore.

Prior to the commencement of the games, the Olympic torch had been making its way across every continent around the world before reaching Singapore sometime last week. And over the weekend, we had the excitement of witnessing first hand the torch relay just across the road from our crib.

Here's us on our way to the bus stop, where the relay was about to proceed.

That's me, with my tongue out in anticipation....(ok...it was just the crazy weather...too hot!) Redefines the meaning of hotdog...

Thats the Ra-Ra bus...doing its best to hype up the crowd before the flame runner appeared. For a moment, I felt like a star when it went by us. Some of the peeps on the bus actually whipped out their cams to snap away at us! Guess its not everyday you see 2 dogs amongst a crowd of hoomans waiting for the Olympic torch relay...

Celebrity sighting! Miss Joanne Peh, if you can spot her in the crowd. There was no way, with my compromised height that I could get a clean shot with all the hoomans in front of us...

We had fun! It was kind of like a good work out. Oh yeah oh yeah oh yeahhhh....hey!

We have the entire torch exchange captured on our view cams but there are some issues with youtube at the moment. Will update the clip some other day. Meanwhile, have a good day/night everyone!

Beach Belles

Meet Belle, my new friend. She's a labrador. It was her first time at the beach but you can tell that she absolutely loved it.

Any doubts or worries about her adaptation to the waters were quashed pretty quickly. Belle was quite the natural. Like me!

Just a couple of days ago, Torres and I were at our fav aunt's place celebrating her birthday. We love her because she's the genius behind fat camp (aka doggie sitting). More on that later.

Anyway, just like during the world cup, there was some controversy. At one point during the birthday celebration, everyone started singing. Should I and did I join in? I reckoned why not...

The problem is, everyone except Daddy believed that I was singing. Not only does he refuse to call that singing, he says its just whining! Can you believe that guy?

So was I singing or not? Please judge for yourselves.

The iPhone

Have you heard of the iPhone? Mum has this mobile device apparantly produced by some fruit company. According to the hoomans, this swanky little device redefines the mobile phone generation today. It boasts an apps store that has thousands of useful and entertaining applications,including games that users can buy or download for free onto their iPhones. Before I start sounding like some wannabe technical review writer, let's get down to today's business.

Here's Torres with the blink wink. How neat is that? He doesn't have that effect in reality, so the iPhone camera application effect came into good use this time round. *Winks*

Okay, I was kidding. He does have that special look in his eyes, doesn't he?

Oops, blooper alert. I was caught off guard in this one. I swear it was the meat stuck between my teeth!

Some food for thought. The iPhone was probably named as such because, like what Simon Cowell enjoys calling some of his contestants, self indulgent. Ever noticed how often hoomans these days whip their iPhones out and start playing games or accessing their virtual applications, blocking themselves out of the actual world that is going on around them? It's not really our style. We prefer doggie and human contact, or in lay hooman terms, socialising.

Allow me to introduce Dodo, younger sister of Lil' Torres. The resemblance (to myself) is uncanny, like Bob Sagat and Papa Jumba. Even I got confused.

Can you identify the three of us?

While we heard she went through a bit of a rough time with her foster home a while ago, we're all glad that she's found a nice home now. Not here though. The "household dog count" limit imposed by Daddy has been met. Dodo was here for the weekend on a social pass and we wasted little time getting acquainted.

Dodo reminds my pawrents a lot of myself. First to yelp at the slightest pitch of an oncoming footstep outside our corridor, and last to give up whining (in the odd event that our pawrents manage to adjust their ears to filter off that humanely intolerable whiny frequency) during seperation anxiety.

Like me, she is uber active during the day, prancing around non-stop with seemingly endless energy. Dodo also has that innate talent of finding the "X" spot on your lap to cuddle up. Her "manja" skills are pretty impressive too!

Meanwhile, Torres, like most men or boys, has been caught up with the World Cup Fever.

While Paul the Octopus and Mani the Parakeet are having their fair share of the limelight predicting the World Cup results, Lil' Torres wants his 60 secs of fame too.

But the coming semi final is proving to be a bit of a headache for him.You see, dachshunds are a German breed. Torres, is a Spanish inspired name. Errr...It's Germany vs Spain.

On second thought, he'll be leaving the predictions to the expert faunas and just sign off with a neat pose.

Beautiful Day

Today was a beautiful day. Pawrents celebrated their Registry of Marriage anniversary and they were kind enough to include us in the agenda. Beautiful flowers for a beautiful lady, not me.

To think that we were almost swayed by the weather forecast hotline. Showers with HEAVY lightning was expected but look at how darn hot it was. Is this what they call global warming?

I'm quite the natural when it comes to the waters. Do not be deceived by my short legs.

Torres is quite the swimmer too, the chill version. He prefers to float around.

You know how some footballs have pre-match rituals? Some chew on a blade of grass before they take to the pitch, others wait till they reach the dugout before they put on their tops. Well, Lil Torres has his own little ritual before he sets sail on his float.

It was a great day out at the beach. It was practically a 1.5hr work out for me and maybe 45mins for Torres.

Throw in the double 8s, which also means FATT FATT in dialect. According to hoomanology, this is supposed to mean good luck. Even though its sounds more like "fat fat" to me.

Today is the Lunar New Year 2010. Everyone is wishing every other person a Happy Tiger New Year. The cute ones will say Tigger New Year.

4 days ago, we celebrated Torres and Tamys' 1st birthday. There was a great spread of food. And I mean it.

Poached salmon and vegetables. Now we know what heaven tastes like.

There was a fantastic cake, courtesy of Karen for the two birthday doggies. It was such a joy to behold!

I know I know. I haven't been blogging for the past 3 weeks. The new year's resolution hasn't exactly been going according to plan. But it was just physically impossible for us to blog. No, we have not grown too fat that our fingers can't reach the keypad. It's just that we have been away from home the last 3 weeks. We were on a retreat at Aunt Amy's and there was no internet access.

The hoomans have been busy with their wedding and then their honeymoon. So we had to go somewhere for our own little honeymoon or some call it fat camp, where food and space are luxuries.

I just had to drop by the blog to shout out to my fellow doggie mates and hooman fans that we're alright. Now that we're back home, normal blogging service will resume, so fret not, reinadoxie and torres are back in business.

Oh and how can I not mention. 3 days to Torres' big day. I smell a party.

Some updates from Tenacious Tamy. For those wondering who on earth is this Reina wannabe (notice the resemblance?), Tamy is the blood sister of Lil' Torres. Quite a terror too, so I heard.

She's doing well, and looking forward to her 1st birthday on Feb 10. Sniffs, time for another get together.

Lottery

Hello fellow doggie mates, what does the lottery mean to you? It's pretty hilarious if you ask me. Today, the numbers to my dog license appeared in the draw (2052, for the hooman readers if any) and the hoomans went bananas. Not because they won. They forgot to buy.

And the thought of them correlating my good bowel movements to me giving them a sign of fortune never fails to tickle. How can you equate crap and gold? Besides, it's just the brown rice.

To me, weekend retreats (more on these in the upcoming posts) are like lotteries. Everything upsizes. The bed, the playing space. The spread of food, the frequency of meal times. Our waistlines.

Eat outs are like lotteries. There aren't many pet cafes left in Singapore. Pawtobello, the last decent cafe closed down last year. Walkabouts at the Botanic Gardens these days are like lotteries. It's been too long since our last stroll in the park. *hint*

With the Lunar New Year approaching, so is that jumbo lottery draw. I'm wishing the hoomans hit the jackpot and everyday will be lottery day for me and doofus.

Embracing 2010

How time flies. Before you know it, you're a year older and I'm almost three. Torres will be one in a month. Have you had your resolution for the new year? This is a first for me. I reckon since I'm approaching 21 human years, I'll do something novel. My resolution for 2010? Blog more regularly.

It's been too long since my last entry. Many things have changed. I've moved on to a new home. Physical home that is. Annoying Pawrents are still around. Got a little brother in Torres. Quite a doofus if you ask me. You guys should check out his dumbo ears. Not sure if it has anything to do with his constant spaced out look. Nevertheless, we love him to bits.

We've been frequenting the beach more often. Check out our surf board on the banner. Though I'd say I'm more of a swimmer, while Torres is more of a surfer. He's too chill, like pops.

Anyway, it's great to be back again. 2010 will be the year of the Tiger. I say it's gonna be the year of the dacshies. Happy New Year everyone!

I just found out from Lorenza that Torres actually means Tower in Mexican. Let's hope Lil' Torres grows up to be as sturdy as one. To all concerned friends, Torres has been settling in quite well. Eating well, sleeping well and definitely peeing well (judging from the pee all over the house...Tsk tsk). We're ready to give him a couple more days to get it right. Afterall, he is but God's wonderful gift to us. =)

He is my little brother. We share the same mother, CoCo and he joined me at my crib on Good Friday, 10th April 2009. Torres was born on 10th Feb 2009 in a litter of 6. Like me, he is the eldest of the pack and the most handsome ( he forced me to type this).

Don't be misled by his tiny frame. He can be quite the terror.

My sister Yuan Yuan and my childhood friend Tang Tang celebrated the birthday together with me. They too were born on the 3rd of March 2007.

This is my very first Chinese New year with them.

My hoomans bought me a cheongsum. A red cheong sum is a body hugging dress for the ladies to wear during the chinese new year. So it takes a real good figure to wear a cheong sum. And i am so proud to say that i am the only one in the family that can fit in a cheongsum nicely *beams*

Animal blessings at St Mary of the Angels

Last Sunday was a special day. It was the feast of St. Francis of Assisi and there was an animal fair at St Mary of the Angels. In the afternoon, there was a blessing for animals!

Sad news

Dame Anita Roddick died aged 64 on Monday after suffering "a serious brain haemorrhage". She is the founder of Bodyshop where she pioneered cruelty free beauty products. She was also a great campaigner for environmental and human rights issues. She was and still is an inspiration to my pawrents, for her entrepreneurship and great passion towards the environment, including animals.

The news of her death came at about the same time my Mummy realised that one of her friends got diagnosed with brain stem tumor. It is shocking because she is only about the same age as Mum (mid 20s). The doctors say that she has only about 5 yrs left to live. We are very very sad.

We know that everyone leaves this earth eventually but we just cannot imagine relating to the word death at such a young age.

Mum has encouraged her friend to remain positive, change her lifestyle and seek treatment. Miracles do happen and we will be praying for her.

Dear friends, do include Mum's friend in your prayers.

Let's get Nostalgic

Hello everyone! I'm a good 6 months old today! In conjuction with my "half-pawday", I've come up with a new Tag game.

Every once in a while, I like to look back and reflect on the past, especially those sweeter memories.

I remember the first time daddy and mummy came to see me. It was at the bottom of my original mummy's block. She had taken me out on one hand ( I was that small!). When she put me down on the ground, I was first very apprehensive! I was shivering and my tail retracting. But it didn't take long before I got comfortable and took my first tiny little steps towards daddy and hid under his legs.

I remember my first trip on daddy's car that night. I was laying on mummy's lap. It was a short ride home, but I remember leaving her a "warm welcome" that surprisingly and ironically did not piss anyone one off.

I remember how I was given my first toy that night. Baldy pig and how I started chewing on him straight away. I remember when mummy and I played our first rounds of fetch!

I remember how I used to cry every other hour when I realised that the room was dark and I could not see mummy and daddy. Daddy would come down from his bed to hug me. Gradually, mummy would put down her leg from the bed to let me know of her presence.

These are sweet memories from the beginning to me.

Yesterday, daddy and mummy brought me to the Japanese Garden. Well, almost. You see, the Garden do not allow pets (Another silly park that does not allow pets.) so we decided to walk along the outskirts of the park, which surprisingly offered quite a good dose of scenic views.

I took some time off to enjoy the scenary.

Face to face with a Great Dane

Hello friends, today I wanna blog about my encounter with a Great Dane on Saturday.

As promised, mum and dad brought me to Pasir Ris Farmway. As we entered a shop, we were greeted by a rare sight in Singapaw.

Dad's first reaction was "Whoah, what a big dog!" Mum's reaction was " It's a Great Dane."

My reaction was...

No fear. Even though the size of his tail was actually longer than my ENTIRE body( and I'm a dachshund )...

We can still be friends.

It was nice meeting you!

After which, we went out to the playground. It was this huge enclosed area with a few training stations.

And because it was enclosed, I was allowed to run wild and free, with no worries.

We ended our day at the Botanic Garden.

One of the primary reasons why we are hesistant about spaying is because of the risks involved in the procedure. And also the pain that she would have to go through.

We used to have two hamsters, Kiwi and Bear Bear. Kiwi gave birth to two boys, Baby and Berrie. When the parents moved on, we were glad that we had their offsprings, two very loving brothers. And the thought of having Reina offsprings is really nice. It never crossed our mind to give her offsprings away.

We will be thinking about it carefully. Thank you again for all the advices, we really do appreciate them!

First things first, Happy Barkday to you Huskee! Mum hasn't been feeling well these couple of days, so your prezzie might just be a few days late!

I'm looking forward to the weekend! Mum and Dad just told me that they will be bringing me to Pasir Ris Farmway. I've heard about the playground there for dogs. Maybe I might just go check it out! Meanwhile, best wishes to everyone out there!

Growing up and dilemmas

Its been a while since my first jab. Since then, I've completed all three rounds of my vaccinations. Hurray!

Looking back, I used to weigh 2kg. Now, I've put on more than half of that weight. 3.2 kg was my last recorded weight about 6 weeks ago. Now probably more!

I've also got myself microchipped in case any bad guys decide to kidnap me and not return me to Mummy and Daddy. That way, if the kidnappers are silly enough to bring me to a vet, they'll be caught! Or if there is any dispute over my identity, the chip solves it all. Coincidently, it is also a new ruling here in Singapore that all dogs have to be microchipped before they are issued licenses.

I swear that the chipping hurts more than the vaccinations. My chip wound was bleeding for a few minutes before it stopped after the helpful nurse attended to me. Thank goodness, no more jabs in the imminent future.

Mummy and Daddy are contemplating if they should sterilise me. On one hand they hope for the continual of bloodline, little Reinas in the making. It will be all so wonderful to have children and for them, grandchildren! On the other hand, they're not sure if they can cope with my pregnancy and the menstrual periods.Plus, the whole sterilisation process seems really scary.

I had a blast at the pawty. Thank you Simba for inviting me over!

While I was away, Mummy and Daddy caught the Singapore Fireworks Festival at the Marina Bay on Sunday. I would have loved to join them but (1) Simba's rocking pawty was on. (2)Dogs not allowed at the festival. Bleah.

Anyway, I gave clear instructions to mum and dad to take more pictures and some videos on the night and also draft out a fireworks report and have it submitted onto my table before 2359hrs on Sunday. (Dad: Yeah rite...)

It's daddy's birthday tmr. We went out for a picnic.

Mummy prepared some sandwiches. She calls it the Mozzerella Pesto Portobello Chicken sandwich. Gawks.

Wishful thinking of me having a bite of that sandwich...all I got was banana...

But all I did was stay and watch kids play ball...

Farmart and Little Guilin

I love weekends! It's the time for outings! Last Saturday, we visited Farmart and Little Guilin in Bukit Batok.

Farmart is a neat little village hidden among the streets of Sungei Tengah. There is a seafood restaurant for the humans. Lots of shops selling interesting items. There is a bee farm, fish farm, pet shops, aquariums etc. Very interesting!

We came across this famous kitty celebrity and they forced me to take a picture.

After Farmart, we made our way to the nearby Little Guilin. Guilin refers to a granite rock sitting in the middle of a lake. It was beautiful and offered such a wonderful backdrop for a photo, we could not resist.

I must first apologise to everyone for being less active over the past week. Mummy has been extremely busy with work, while daddy has been down with the nasty flu bug. No one's there to help me switch on my computer. =(

Now, I'm really glad to be back online! Jacks, I'm back! After going MIA (Missing In Action) for such a long time, there is now so much to blog! Let me start first with the Dogs With Blogs Singapore gathering at Pawtobello on Thursday! It happened to be our country's National day too!

Pawtobello is situated along Mohd Sultan Road. It's a dog cafe! There are menus for both humans and dogs. How cool is that!

The food for the humans must be really good. I saw Luckie's parents finish their food really fast. Mummy and Daddy started off with one dish, and ended with two.

I had baked brown rice with lamb for dinner...served on a "platter"...woof hoo~

It also turned out to be Huskee's and Boy's birthday! Happy Bday my friends! Can you spot the little dachshund on the cake?

It wasn't my birthday but I received lots of gifts too. Thank you Chilli, Huskee, Boy and Eileen for the wonderful gifts. So sorry that I did not bring any gifts. I will remember to during the next meet up!

Daddy's back!

Daddy's back after 2 weeks in camp. Hurray!

And we got back into business.

First, we went to the Botanic gardens on Sat. I missed that place! Have'nt been there for some time...

There we saw this famous tree...blossoming with pretty red flowers. A rare sight in the tropical Singapore climate.

And I met this flight of stairs...(nevermind the guy laying behind me)

which strangely I dared not walk down...

Mum and dad were having a laugh at me...

They decided to test me and walked further away from me...

I still refused to move...and by now, I was whining...

It was a strange flight of stairs. I never plucked enough courage to walk down it. Mum and Dad never understood why either.

Nevertheless, I met someone who looked like sparky! hehe

Then, on sunday, we went to Upper Seletar Reservoir. Nice place subtly tucked away in the northern part of Singapore.

Singapore Hotdogs 3rd Anniversary

It was Singapore Hotdogs group 3rd Anniversary on 27th July 2007 and we had a private pool party that evening.

I was really looking forward to it cause i heard there will be games and i can't wait to take part in those games!

Since Daddy is in camp and mummy still haven't get her driving license (lousy), mummy had to take a taxi there. Good thing Mummy manage to share taxi with my fellow hotdog friend Ramu and his Daddy.

Here is a picture of me & Ramu. Ramu is a Long Hair Dachshund, black & tan too! Isn't he good looking???

The organisers booked a doggie swimming pool at U-petamart, so the whole place belongs to US, the Dachshunds! Any dogs taller and have a body that is shorter, cannot come in. Oh, though there is a maltese, i didn get his name and i am not really sure if hes a maltese (Reina's Mum: I am pretty sure he is not a maltese) :p There were so many dachies that mummy didn't manage to get their names.

Heres the Pool. Nice eh? Can you see Jamie following behind me. I think he likes me cause the previous gathering, he kept following me too.

So, there was running, swimming & sit stay competition. I came in 3rd for both Running & swimming but i did badly for my Sit stay command. Based on overall results, i didn't manage to win anything! *sobs* Its not that i do not know the sit & stay command, but come on, the floor was so wet and dirty, of course i did not want to dirty my sexy back yea?

Mummy's been really busy these days, She has 2 events coming thursday & friday. 2nd half of the year means the launch of Fall/Winter collection. I can't wait for her events to be over cause she looks like a zombie now. Well, if there is any good that came out of the preparation for her event, is the reason to buy new clothes & shoes. She came home today with a new pair of shoes & says she needs to squeeze time out from her tight schedule to buy some new cocktail dresses. Woman *shakes head*.... Shop, Shop, Shop....

Daddy will be coming home this Friday! Come friday come faster. Mummy will be done with her events and i will have Daddy here with me too!

I hope it will not rain ANYMORE cause if it rains, i can't go to the park! I want to chase some birds...

I heard the news from Luckie... and till now i still cannot believe it...

I've always known Oscar as the Airedale who scores ACES in his agility classes... Probably one of the smartest dog i've ever met. Just take alook at all his awards and certificates.

Mummy & I never knew of this breed Airedale and Oscar was the first Airedale we know. We love reading Oscar's blog as he always bring so much fun. Mummy likes Oscar so much that she even told Daddy that she wants to get an Airedale if they get to move to a bigger house.

I like the Oscar who plays with his hoola hop, who looks so smart wearing the bandana...

You'll be missed dearly... Continue to be as charming over at the rainbow bridge.

To Sentosa we go!

I had a greatttttt weekend! My parents brought me to Sentosa. Sentosa is this little getaway with beaches that are good enough in Singapore context. Well, to me, i think the beaches are beautiful, but mum swears that these beaches are NOTHING compared to those she's seen. *roll eyes*

Ok, so before i start talking about my Sentosa trip, i just wanna say... I MISS DADDY already! Daddy has officially gone for his reservist. For my frens who do not stay here in Sunny Singapore. Reservist is a torture boot camp for ex army boys, it is (sad to say) COMPULSARY! Daddy had no choice but to go... a man's gotta do what he's gotta do.

So i am left to face Mummy for 2 weeks... (oops, did what i just said sounded like i did not fancy the thought of facing my Mum?) Ok, here i go again. I am SO Happy that i will be having so much private time with Mummy!~ (i really still prefer having daddy around)

Back to Sentosa now. It was FAMILY DAY on last Sunday and my hooman's family decided to go Sentosa for a pinic! I was really happy to see DomDom again cause i really miss playing with my frens! Mummy prepared her best dish, Prawn Aglio Olio for the gathering and it was a hit. The dish was WIPED out! Pity i didn't get to try... But mummy was nice to bring pumpkin for DomDom and me.

It was my first time there at the beach, so i was pretty excited when i see the amount of SAND. So what did i do the first thing i step paw on sand? I DIG! YES!!!

I COME, I SEE, I DIG!

Dom Dom however did not know how to dig. The last time he came in contact with sand, he actually ate it. (seriously... i know hoomans always say dogs like to stuff ANYTHING into their mouths, but Dom... do you really need to eat sand?) Well, i couldn't help but teach Dom Dom what a dog should do to sand. I must have been a good leader because within minutes, Dom Dom started digging already!

Oh, and how can one not swim when you are at the beach yea? I tell you... i was a natural. The moment i hit the waters, i was swimming GRACEFULLY.... Dom Dom, once again stood there looking at me. It took Dom dom's parents nearly half an hour to get him into the waters.

Heres me showing Dom Dom how to swim. Can you actually hear my Mummy laughing at Dom? So rude.... Mummy should learn to respect my friend!

Other than the Digging & Swimming, Dom and i did alot of ball chasing too! There was this Daddy & son playing football near us and the little boy heard my mummy call me REINA. The little boy was excited to hear my name and told his Daddy about it. So his Daddy asked my Mummy... "Reina as in the Liverpool's goal keeper Reina?"

My parents were so happy that my name was finally acknowledged! Oh Come on... I did that goal keeper Reina proud for being such an oustanding mini dachshund alright! This is how it really should be: when someone meet Reina the goalkeeper, the person will say... "Reina as in the lovely little mini dachshund Reina?"

This entry is for the records... it happened about 2 and a half months ago... I was younger and erm... *too embarrassed for words*

Daddy and mummy did a little experiment. They switched off the lights, faked an exit out of the room and hid under the blankets. I was tricked into thinking that they were out. It didn't take long for me to do my usual thing...

Whining, crying and yelling like a chicken! *gasps*

Thankfully, I have outgrown it.

Hot dog

I think we have been going to the botanical gardens too often! Hahaha...but we just love it there! It's peaceful, green, great place for a stroll and some photography too!

Last Sunday was a hot day, we were tired from a long walk and many people have been calling me hot dog. We stopped by the station for some refreshments. But wait! Does it say Hot Dogs! OMD!

Then I remembered Simba's post...My worst nightmare!!!
